A Tribute to Kenny Rogers

Kenny Rogers

When news broke of the death of the legendry Kenny Rogers, his fans took to the social media to mourn a man who soothed their ears with great music from the 1970s through to the 80s and 90s.

Unfamiliar to many young music fans, they wondered who the white-bearded old man who was trending on various social media platforms was!

Well, some of us who grew up in the 1990s were so lucky to listen to the music our parents used to enjoy. I am talking about music that could pass like six decades and still sounds good for the ears and makes one fall in love.

Unlike this generation where you wonder what happened to a song after just three weeks!

I mean which lady cannot be moved by a ballad which goes; “Lady, I’m your knight in shining armor and I love you, You have made me what I am and I am yours, My love, there’s so many ways I want to say I love you, Let me hold you in my arms forevermore…” a line from one of Kenny Rogers’ hits titled, Lady.

Call me outdated or backward but I have failed to fit in.

Anyway, let me listen to my father’s favorites: Gambler, Coward of the Country and Oh My Lucille.

Who knows, maybe one day, they had a misunderstanding with my mother he sent it to her; she listened to it and forgave him! I mean it is their music that talked.

Sleep well Kenny Rogers we thank God for your 81 years and of course that deep voice.

We celebrate you.
