Chameleon in trouble for staging show in Gulu city

Popular singer Joseph Mayanja alias Jose Chameleon is in trouble for staging an illegal music concert in Gulu City on Tuesday night in violation of the ban on social gatherings to contain the Coronavirus pandemic.

This stems from a short video clip making rounds on Social Media where showing Chameleon performing amidst the crowd at Bus Terminal –a famous hangout in Bardege –Layibi Division in Gulu City.

In the 44 second’s video clip supposedly recorded by one of the revellers, Chameleon is seen singing “Kigwa Leero” amidst hundreds of revellers, the majority were not wearing facemasks and observing the recommended social distance to stop the spread of COVID-19.

David Mudong Ongom, the Aswa River Region Police Spokesperson said that the singer held the illegal show on Tuesday night and that police intervened and dispersed the crowd shortly after receiving a tip-off from concerned residents.

According to Mudong, police went ahead and opened a General Enquiry File –GEF to investigate the circumstance, under which the show was held contrary to the suspension of social gatherings.

Denise Odongpiny Odwong, the Gulu Resident City Commissioner, says that police stopped the show and ordered the singer back to his hotel room in Gulu City. According to Odongpiny, he is still studying the statutory instrument by the Ministry of Health on COVID -19 guidelines to establish whether they take any legal action against the singer.

  Chameleon has not yet commented on the matter as his known phone numbers were switched off when our reporter tried to contact him. Since July 19th, 2021 Chameleon has been moving around Gulu City in his white V8 vehicle registration number UBH 013N.
