Festive season: one person dies daily in Elgon region over road Carnage

At least one person was confirmed dead and two others hospitalized under critical conditions following Friday’s accident in Sironko district, maintaining the unfortunate rate of a life being lost daily on the Elgon roads since the start of the festive season.
The fatal accident involving motor vehicle Reg No. UAP 041S Toyota CRV and motorcycle Reg No UFD 214J Bajaj Boxer occurred on Friday evening at 6:00 PM at Bunamozo “B” village, Busamaga along Namagumba- Budadiri road in Sironko district.
According to Police, preliminary reports indicate that a speeding motor vehicle swerved into a motorcycle that was carrying two passengers killing one of them instantly and leaving the rider and the second passenger critically injured.
Elgon region
A female passenger on the motorcycle who is yet unidentified is also admitted in Mbale hospital under critical conditions.
Taitika said the driver of the motor vehicle which caused the accident is on the run adding that investigations have commenced to ascertain the real cause of the accident warning that most of the accidents happening are being caused by overspeeding and reckless driving.
The body of the deceased is in Mbale city mortuary pending postmortem.
Police records indicate that in the last 10 days, over five accidents have been recorded in the Elgon sub-region.
In Mbale City alone, at least six lives have been lost to accidents within a space of only seven days.
