Mobilisers of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party in Arua are angry with their Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Nahori Oya whom they are accusing of keeping to himself, money meant for mobilizing NRM supporters ahead of President Yoweri Museveni’s campaign meeting in the district.
Museveni is scheduled to meet NRM mobilisers at Muni National Teachers’ College as he begins the West Nile leg of his 2021 re-election bid.
About 200 NRM mobilisers met on Thursday morning to finalise their preparations for Museveni’s campaign but as the meeting drew to a close, the accusations against Oya sprung up. Some threatened to join the opposition should they not receive their facilitation.
Several NRM supporters from across West Nile have been called to attend Museveni’s campaign address and promised a refund for their transport and other resources to facilitate campaigns for the President in the 2021 general elections.
Museveni is expected to speak to the NRM leaders about the pledges he made in the previous elections which however remain unfulfilled todate. Among these is the promise to connect the West Nile to the national Electricity grid, compensation for LRA victims in West Nile and payment for ex-combatants among others.
