FUFA nominates three top Coaches for Airtel- FUFA coach of the year awards

The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has nominated three Ugandan coaches to compete for the Airtel- FUFA Coach of the year award.
The nominees are Wasswa Bbosa, the Express FC head coach, Morley Byekwaso, KCCA FC, and Hussein Mbalangu, Mbarara FC.

Rogers Byamukama, the Chairman of the Airtel FUFA awards committee unveiled the names of the nominees at FUFA House in Mengo on Wednesday morning.
He said that the technical committee arrived at the names of the trio because of their tremendous contributions to their clubs and the national team.

Bbosa led Express FC to the triumph of the Star-Times Uganda premier league and helped his side to scoop the Cecafa Kagame Cup.
Byekwaso helped the u-20 National team, the Hippos to scoop silver in the under-20 African Cup of nations while Mbalangu guided his former club Arua Hills to Uganda’s top tier from the FUFA Big league.

Other categories include the Airtel – FUFA Women Football Coach of the year where Fred Musiime from the Lady Doves, Alex Sida from She Maroons and Ayub Khalifa of the u-20 Women National team are competing.

Other categories are Beach soccer player of the year, where Emmanuel Wasswa, Kigozi Ambrose and Isma Kawawulo will battle for the award. Member association award, where Express FC, Uganda Youth Football Association and Kampala Region Football Association are shortlisted for the award.

The other awards include Futsal player of the year, which has three nominees including Farouk Tumwesigye, Travis Mutyaba and Najib Muwonge plus the fans’ favorite Uganda foreign-based player of the year, which has former Cranes captain, Denis Onyango, Uganda Cranes striker, Fahad Bayo, Joan Nabirye who plays for Vihiga Queens in Kenya, and Uganda Cranes midfielder, Tadeo Lwanga.

Now, according to the organizers, three categories of the awards including the Airtel- FUFA male player of the year, FUFA female player of the year, and the fans’ Ugandan foreign-based player of the year will be determined by the fans who will vote via the FUFA website.

Rogers Byamukama, the chairman of the Airtel FUFA awards committee confirmed that the winners in the categories of the best payer both men and women will be awarded a vehicle while other categories will walk away with cash prizes.

Five male players including Erick Kambale, Yunus Sentamu, Shafik Kagimu, Aziizi Kayondo, and Bobosi Byaruhanga were nominated last month for the award of the best male player while Daisy Nakaziro, Fazira Ikwaput, Fauzia Najjemba Joan Naggayi, and Margret Kunihira were nominated for the award of the best female player.

Rogers Mulindwa said the two lists will be reduced to three players respectively next week. In total, 13 categories will be considered during the Airtel FUFA Awards 2021 ceremony. Other categories listed include the FUFA Presidential Award, best eleven for men, best eleven for women, fair play award and the best squad of a particular year.

The last edition of the Awards in 2020 were not held because of the challenges brought about by COVID-19. Former KCCA FC player, Alan Okello won the 2019 Award and Crested Cranes, Juliet Nalukenge won the best female player of the year award. Byamukama, says that they opted to organize the awards because there was a lot of action both at the club and National team levels this year.

The administrator said that they will not be warding the upcoming talents because there were no junior leagues.

The announcement was a continuation of the awards that launched on October 21st, 2021 when the local soccer governing body-FUFA together with the sponsors Airtel Uganda launched the 6th edition of the awards that are intended to recognize the outstanding football personalities of the year.
The Awards ceremony will take place on December 4, 2021, at Speke Resort Munyonyo.
