Gen Katumba Wamala survives assassination attempt

Former army commander and Works and Transport minister, Gen Edward Katumba Wamala has survived an attempt at his life moments after he left his residence at Kisaasi, a Kampala suburb.

According to eyewitnesses, the assailants, travelling on two black motorcycles trailed Katumba from home and opened fire at his car as his driver slowed to go past a road hump.

His car was riddled with several bullets that claimed the life of driver and daughter only as Brenda.

“The gunmen were on two motorcycles and dressed in [orange jackets], they wore face masks that disguised their identity,” an eyewitness said.

The gunmen first shot in the air, flattened his car tyres before directly shooting at the car, an army Land cruiser registration number H4DF 2138.

Katumba later emerged from the with his clothes soaked in blood. He is feared to have sustained injuries in one of the arms and the chest.

He was later evacuated by a boda boda cyclist to a nearby Malcolm health centre.
