National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential candidate, Robert Kyagulanyi has been arrested moments after he was duly nominated by the Electoral Commission (EC) for the 2021 elections.
Heavily armed police waited for the presidential candidate outside the nomination venue at Kyambogo University, forcefully grabbed him from his car and thrown into a waiting police van and driven away despite protestations from members of his team.
Earlier, the Chairman, Justice Simon Byabakama at 11:15 am after verifying his credentials to run as a presidential candidate.
Kyagulanyi was presented for nomination by his wife, Barbra Itungo Kyagulanyi and Ali Bukenya alias Nubian Li.
Byabakama Mugenyi advised Kyagulanyi to wave to his supporters in his vehicle on his way to avoid pulling crowds that can fuel the spread of COVID-19.
Other members of Kyagulanyi team included MPs Mathias Mpuuga (Masaka Municipality), Asuman Basalirwa (Bugiri Municipality), John Baptist Nambeshe (Manjiya), Francis Zaake (Mityana Municipality) and Allan Ssewanyana (Makindye West).
