The leader of opposition who is also Member of Parliament Nyedo-Mukungwe , Mathius Mpuuga has said that the opposition is in consultation with media houses and bodies to work on the review of the current media laws strangling media freedoms .

Mpuuga made remarks during his visits to various media houses in Kampala in his recent tour to different media houses in the country.

“Our key people are looking at the media laws and we have lined them as one of the key areas to review, the powers in UCC are not powers of democracy,” he said  

He said for any country to have proper democracy the laws strangling media freedoms must be unpacked to provide democracy and good governance the country is longing to have.

Mpuuga noted that the opposition will carry out a national wide consultation with media practitioners and sound them before they embark on bring a private members bill to parliament for reviewing the media laws that are currently curtailing freedom of speech.
