President Yoweri Museveni has commissioned works on the 16km Kira-Kasangati- Matugga road in Wakiso district that is expected to improve traffic flow within and around Kampala and Wakiso easing connection to the trunk roads especially Bombo and Jinja highways.
The road project will consume more than Shs 200 billion fully funded by the government of Uganda.
According to the Works and Transport minister, Gen. “The project involves construction of Kira through Kasangati to Matugga as phase one of the road and we expect in future to have phase two that will take Matugga up to Wakiso. Along the project are five junctions that will be improved with traffic lights,” Katumba said.
The junctions are to be upgraded as part of the scope of works include, Gayaza junction, Kiteetika and Mpererwe junctions along Gayaza road which are to be signalised and Erisa junction at Kyebando also along Gayaza road.
