Uganda Cranes will start their preparations for the upcoming four-nation mini-tournament with a Tour of Buganda Region.
The Cranes will play their first match against Buganda Region Select on Sunday 20th March 2022 at Saza Ground, in Mityana as they prepare to take part in the Uzbekistan event that will be held on March 25 to 29 in Markaziy Stadium, Namangan city.
During the tournament, Uganda Cranes will play alongside Tajikistan, hosts Uzbekistan, and the Kyrgyz Republic.
The Uganda Cranes Head coach Milutin Sredojević Micho has summoned a squad of 35 players to start preparations for the event.
The squad which has a combination of local-based and foreign-based players saw the return of team captain and striker Farouk Miya.
Micho says that the build-up of regional tour games will help to assess players as well as enhance the team ahead of the Uzbekistan event.
“We shall test the players with internal regional build-up and tune the competitive mode since friendly matches are all about trying, testing, and experimenting before naming the final 23 players who will travel to Uzbekistan”. Micho explained.
After the Buganda region tour, another build-up tie will be organized.
The final team to Uzbekistan will then be named before traveling for the first game against Tajikistan on 25th March 2022.
Micho recently said their participation in the mini-tournament will help the technical bench to assess the team before kicking off the 2023 African Cup of Nations ( AFCON) qualifiers.
“The upcoming mini-tournament in Uzbekistan will help us to conduct the main general check-up before the AFCON 2023 qualifiers in June 2022 (1st – 14th June)”. Micho said .
