At least three lives have been lost as the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) held primary elections to choose its 2021 parliamentary flag bearers.
Dr. Tanga Odoi, the party’s electoral commission chief was forced to call elections in Bukono county, Namutumba district after an agent of the Lands state minister, Persis Namuganza, was killed.
“I have suspended elections in Bukono constituency because Hon. Persis Namuganza’s agent was killed this morning. We have sent police to arrest anyone connected to that killing,” Odoi announced on Twitter.
He also suspended polls in Kigulu South, Iganga district, after one of the candidates, Stephen Waako died in a motor accident.
In Tororo, a registrar for Mukuju sub-county was reportedly killed and another person seriously injured at Okworoto polling station during a scuffle that broke out following a disagreement over the conduct of the polls.
