Orthodox Archbishop Referred to Kampala

The Orthodox Archbishop in Charge of Burundi and Rwanda, Metropolitan Innocentious Byakatonda who was quarantined together with 95 other people at Kirigime Guest House in Kabale district over the weekend has been relocated to Kampala.  

Byakatonda was moved to Kampala on Tuesday evening after spending two days at Kirigime Guest House. He will now be isolated separately at Grand Global Hotel.

Byakatonda was travelling together with 95 others aboard two Jaguar buses from Rwanda to Uganda when they were intercepted by security and health officials in Kabale district for the mandatory quarantine against the corona virus pandemic.    

During the quarantine, our reporter observed Alfred Besigensi, the Kabale District Health Officer and Health Workers from Kabale Regional Referral Hospital giving special attention to Byakatonda when he informed them that he was diabetics.       

They also directed the management of Kirigime Guest House to prepare for him a special meal which corresponds to his health.  On Tuesday evening, Byakatonda was relocated to Kampala when his health deteriorated.    

Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson, says Byakatonda was transferred on the recommendation from the Health Ministry following a request by Metropolitan Yonah Lwanga, the Orthodox Archbishop of Uganda.

Byakatonda hailed the government for the good care he received while in quarantine at Kirigime Guest House. 

He called upon the public to pray for the end of the corona virus pandemic and called on other passengers to be patient and abide by the corona virus prevention guidelines issued by the Health Ministry.  

Uganda has since confirmed 9 corona virus patients, all of them Ugandan nationals who had just returned from Dubai, United Arab Emirates-UAE.
