The Orthodox Church in Uganda is mourning its leader Archbishop Yona Lwanga, who passed on, on Sunday in Athens, the Capital of Greece.

The church confirmed Metropolitan Lwanga’s death via its Twitter page Uganda Orthodox Church. In a brief statement, the church twitted,” Our Spiritual father has gone to meet the lord, the lion of the Patriarchate of Alexandria”.

The church didn’t however mention the cause of Lwanga’s death and plans for burial arrangements.

Lwanga, whose death comes five months after the death of Kampala Catholic Archbishop Cyprian Kizito Lwanga, is a known critic of the government who has been at the forefront for the rights of the oppressed and respect for human rights.
