The two officers sustained injuries when four machete-wielding thugs stormed the roadblock at Kiwumpa village about five kilometers to Luwero town council along Kampala –Gulu highway around 12:30 pm Monday.
The thugs stabbed the dou and made off with their guns.
Edward Ssimbwa, the LC 3 chairperson of Luwero sub county explains that the attackers parked their vehicle at a nearby school about a kilometer away from the scene and walked through bushes to the checkpoint.
Ssimbwa says that the attackers emerged from the bushes and stabbed the two armed constables, robbed their guns, and vanished from the scene.
He says that thereafter the assailants torched a truck laden with maize that was parked near the checkpoint after breaking down a day before the attack. Ssimbwa says that the assailants later jumped into their vehicle and disappeared with two guns.
Police constable, Caroline Kanagwa from the traffic police managed to escape from the scene through the bushes and removed her uniforms to hide from the killers.
Kanagwa met Abisafu Kawuma, a resident of the area who gave her a t-shirt before she walked back to the highway and sent a message to her commander informing him about the attack.
Otong said that an operation is underway to hunt for the attackers and recover the stolen guns.
Police and Uganda People Defense Forces-UPDF soldiers commanded by Luwero District Police Commander Living Twazagye combed the nearby bushes for the stolen guns and killers in vain.
Both the police and UPDF have deployed to beef up security in the village following the attack.
