Police have named some of the victims of the Wednesday morning accident along Mbale-Tirinyi Road.

The accident occurred at Namatala Bridge at Nasenyi sub-county in Budaka district on Mbale Tirinyi Road involved two taxi registration numbers UBH 437K and UBJ 676W and a Toyota Raum Registration Number UAT 995A.

Immaculate Alaso, the Bukedi North Police Spokesperson identifies the deceased as Fatima Namarome and Kurusum Nambafu, both residents of Mbale City, Isaka Kafero, David Mulabi and another male adult.

According to Alaso, three other accident victims including Saida Nandigobe are still battling for their lives at Mbale Regional Referral Hospital.

Alaso says that the drivers of both Taxis are still on the run, adding that efforts are ongoing to arrest them. The scene of the accident is a black spot, according to the residents.

Rosemary Baluka, the LC V councilor of Nasenyi sub-county, says that in addition to the road being narrow, it lacks guards and signposts at the river, which makes it difficult for people to survive in case of an accident.

Last year, a taxi registration number UBH 088D that was destined for Kampala from Mbale with nine occupants plunged into the same river at the same spot.
