Policeman Arrested for Hiring out Uniform

The Police in Mbarara are holding one of their own, accusing him of hiring out his uniform to a civilian. The suspect is police constable David Kibwika, who is attached Nyakaizi police post, Kakoba division in Mbarara Municipality.

He was picked up on Saturday and charged with scandalous behavior.

Kibwika is accused of hiring his uniform to Lauben Gumisiriza, a resident of Nyakabiingo village in Kakanju sub-county, Bushenyi district.

Gumisiriza was arrested on Thursday, June 4, 2020, carrying a female passenger on a boda boda along the Mbarara-Isingiro road.

“Gumisiriza was riding a motorcycle, fully clad in a Uganda Police uniform but in sneakers and carrying a female passenger, which raised suspicion. He failed to identify himself when asked by the officers,” Samson Kasasira, the Rwizi region police spokesperson said.

“He first lied that he was a police officer but later confessed to being a civilian and having hired the police uniform from Kibwika,” Kasasira added

Gumisiriza is in custody at Mbarara central police station on charges of possession of government stores and impersonation as investigations continue.
