Thugs storm Chinese company, take off with guns, money

Two guns have been stolen and two Policemen were injured after 10 thugs armed with a pump-action gun robbed a Chinese quarry in Nakaseke district.

The suspected robbery attack occurred at Jiu Zhou Stone Company Uganda Limited located at Lule Ward in Semuto town council. The attack occurred at 9:10 pm and the thugs also disappeared with an unknown sum of money from the company.

One of the residents identified as Edward Katumba said that a number of armed thugs raided the company and cut the two policemen who were guarding the quarry before they robbed their guns.
Katumba added that the thugs also stole money which the company had withdrawn from the bank ahead of payday for its workers on Monday.

The injured Policemen were identified as Simon Ebong and Alfred Juster, all deployed to guard the quarry but attached at Semuto Police Station.

On learning about the robbery attack, Policemen from Semuto Police Station together with residents mounted an operation and arrested two of the thugs who were traveling in Toyota registration number UAN 325N.
Isah Ssemwogerere the Savannah Regional Police Spokesperson said that Police have so far recovered one gun and they are still on the search for another eight suspects.
Ssemwogerere added that the thugs were armed with a pump-action gun and machetes before they attacked the Policemen.

In 2018, President Yoweri Museveni ordered the deployment of soldiers to Chinese businesses after the spate of robberies targeting them.

For Isolated factories, the President recommended the deployment of four policemen. It’s with that background that Nakaseke has been deploying policemen daily at Jiu Zhou Stone Company Uganda Limited to guard it.

According to the Police Crime report, at least 26 robbery cases were reported in Nakaseke in 2020.
The report further indicated that six people were killed and six others injured in robberies from 2020 to the end of January 2021 in the Greater Luwero districts. 

The criminal gangs committed 20 crimes, robbed 23 million shillings, 243 mobile phones, one motorcycle, and a pistol. They terrorized people in Bombo, Kikyusa, Migeera, Wobulenzi town councils, Luwero and Nakasongola districts.
