Uganda beats Tanzania in African Netball Championship

The Uganda National Netball team, She Cranes have defeated Tanzania in the opening match of the 2021 African Netball Championship.

She Cranes were in high spirits in the opening tie to overcome a resilient Tanzania side 77-29 at Patrick Lyambo Police Training College Court in Windhoek, Namibia.

Uganda was quick to secure the lead in the first quarter 20-07 before doubling the score to end head into halftime with a 42-14 victory.

The She Cranes under the command of skipper Stella Oyella continued pressing the opponent’s defence in the third quarter and added another 18 goals to end quarter three with a huge margin lead of 60-21 before completing the game with a 77-29 score.

Today Uganda will be in action against Zambia in matchday two for the championship.

Uganda entered the tournament in a good form after triumphing in the just concluded African Pent Series that was held in Namibia.

During this tournament, Uganda completed the championship with an unbeaten run.

Fred Mugerwa, the She Cranes Head Coach applauded his players for the great performance they displayed in the opening game, adding that he opted to give chance to players who did not have enough playing time in the Pent Series.

Stella Oyella, team Captain said her teammates had a difficult time at the beginning of the game but they later organized within the play to and overcome the opponent.
