A Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF) soldier shot dead four people including three security colleagues, a civilian and injured several others at Ganda, Nansana Municipality on Monday Morning.
Lt Colonal Deo Akiiki, the army deputy spokesman confirmed the incident in a statement on Monday and said that joint investigations had commenced to find out what prompted the Junior Non Commissioned Officer to shoot is colleagues.
“We are investigating an unfortunate incident this morning, 11/01/2021 where one of our soldiers, L/Cpl Omara Denis Awillo has shot and killed two Local Defence Unit personnel, one civilian and one police special constable (SPC) at Ganda, Nansana Municipality, Wakiso district,” Lt Col Akiiki said in the statement.
He added that the culprit was also gunned down in self-defence.
According to Akiiki, the dead LDUs are John Walter Wafula and Abrahim Masereka while SPC Isaac Nimurunji was the police officer who was riding a motor cycle along Ganda road.
Ritah Nabayungo is the civilian who was shot in her car along Ganda road.
Lance Corporal Denis Omara was recently deployed at the Local Defence Unit detach in Ganda village, Kyebando parish in Wakiso district.
Jacob Mukhwana, a medical officer who neighbours the LDU detach, told URN that Omara shot his victims following a misunderstanding with them.
