Watchman shoots dead student in Kibuku


Police in Kibuku district have arrested a watchman for allegedly shooting dead a student using a bow and arrow.

The suspect is Muhamad Hirya, who was employed by a fruits vendor to guard their fruits along Mbale Tirinyi road.

According to Police, Hirya who was on night duty on using a bow and arrow shot at a group of youths who had on two occasions attempted to steal fruits that he was guarding and the arrow hit one of the youths.

The incident happened in Kadama trading center along Mbale Tirinyi road at around 2:00am on Monday morning.

Police identified the deceased as Salim Isenyi aged 17 years old, a student of Paradise Secondary School in Kibuku district and a resident of Dodoi Parish in Kadama sub-county.

Immaculate Alaso, the Bukedi North Police spokesperson said that the arrow hit the deceased around the neck and his colleagues forcefully pulled it out which made him to bleed profusely and he succumbed to injuries on arrival at Kadama central clinic.

She said the suspect has been detained at Kibuku Police station and inquiries into the matter have been launched.
